Ugly Commuters in Singapore

STOMPers Rahmat and peiyin are turned off by these young couples who have made a mockery of the reserved seat sign by sleeping in the seats in intimate positions.

Couples who place their arms or legs over each other in awkward positions in public places have been dubbed 'octopus' couples by STOMPers after a recent spate of such cases.

While STOMPer peiyin described the act as 'unglam', STOMPer Rahmat commented:

"This is a misuse and mockery of reserved seats on the MRT Circle Line, from Marymount to Dhoby Ghaut station.

"This couple, presumably Malays, sat on the reserve seat and pretended to sleep.

"They deprived the elderly from using the seat.

"This was seen at about 4.17pm on Friday, Jul 1.

"Two weeks later, at about 1.04pm on another Friday, Jul 15, a similar sight was seen but this time, involving a Chinese couple.

"The male youth was dressed in white school uniform bearing a badge believed to be that of Raffles Junior College or RI.

"They were caught on camera pretending to sleep while travelling on the same route as I, from Bishan to Paya Lebar station.

"I had previously seen similar but less serious cases of such misbehaviour when people misuse the MRT reserve seats.

"I hope this will help push for remedial actions to be taken, implementing enforcement action in such cases.

"Otherwise the sign displayed on the MRT trains could become a mockery by the brazen acts of indiscriminate people."
